General Fund
Summary:
The Legal Department is comprised of the City
Attorney’s Office and Risk Management.
The City Attorney is the legal advisor of the City
and represents the City in all legal matters involving
the City including, but not limited to: the
prosecution of all criminal violations of the
Bremerton Municipal Code, the limitation and
reduction of liability exposures, and provides
legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, and all
City staff.
During 2009 the legal department expanded to
bring prosecution services in-house. These services
were previously performed by the Kitsap
County Prosecutor’s office.
The staffing costs of Risk Management are included
in the legal department budget with a
transfer from the Risk Management Fund budget
to offset those costs. The Risk Management program
is presented in the Internal Service Funds
section of this document.
