In <strong>the</strong> demonstration <strong>of</strong> leadership responsibilities, <strong>the</strong> Nurse 1 (Advanced<br />
Practice) will act as a role model within <strong>the</strong> health care team. This will include<br />
contributing to <strong>the</strong> development, implementation <strong>and</strong> review <strong>of</strong> ward/service<br />
business plans. The Nurse 1 (Advanced Practice) will also provide support <strong>and</strong><br />
direction within <strong>the</strong>ir level <strong>of</strong> competence. The Nurse 1 (Advanced Practice)<br />
may also take responsibility for unit activities o<strong>the</strong>r than direct patient care, for<br />
example, Workplace Health <strong>and</strong> Safety <strong>Office</strong>r or manual h<strong>and</strong>ling coordinator.<br />

The role requires <strong>the</strong> Nurse 1 (Advanced Practice) to demonstrate sound <strong>and</strong><br />
effective communication skills with members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> health team, patients,<br />
families, visitors <strong>and</strong> staff from o<strong>the</strong>r agencies. This would include initiating,<br />
maintaining <strong>and</strong> using team networks in a mature, confident manner to achieve<br />
positive patient outcomes.<br />
Nurse 2 (Registered Nurse / Registered Midwife)<br />
20.8 Work is likely to be under routine supervision with intermittent checking, but may take <strong>the</strong><br />
form <strong>of</strong> general guidance <strong>and</strong> considerable autonomy where working in teams is required.<br />
20.9 Responsibility for <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs maybe involved, <strong>and</strong> team co-ordination may be<br />
required.<br />
20.10 Competency at this level involves <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills to a range <strong>of</strong> tasks<br />
<strong>and</strong> roles. There is a defined range <strong>of</strong> contexts where <strong>the</strong> choice <strong>of</strong> actions required is<br />
usually clear, with limited complexity in <strong>the</strong> choice.<br />
20.11 Competencies are normally used within established routines, methods <strong>and</strong> procedures, in<br />
some cases involving discretion <strong>and</strong> judgement about possible actions.<br />
Nurse 3 (Registered Nurse / Registered Midwife)<br />
20.12 Work is likely to be under limited supervision with checking related to overall progress, but<br />
may take <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> broad guidance <strong>and</strong> autonomy where working in teams is required.<br />
20.13 Responsibility for <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs maybe involved, <strong>and</strong> team coordination maybe<br />
required.<br />
20.14 Competency at this level involves <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong> knowledge with depth in some areas<br />
<strong>and</strong> a broad range <strong>of</strong> skills. There is a range <strong>of</strong> tasks <strong>and</strong> roles in a variety <strong>of</strong> contexts, with<br />
some complexity in <strong>the</strong> extent <strong>and</strong> choice <strong>of</strong> actions required.<br />
