Schedule 1 Nurses (Nor<strong>the</strong>rn Territory Public Sector) Provisions<br />

1. Recognition <strong>of</strong> previous experience<br />

1.1 Approved experience will mean such experience in <strong>the</strong> industry <strong>of</strong> nursing as is recognised<br />

by <strong>the</strong> CEO for <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> this clause.<br />

1.2 An Employee will be credited with approved experience for purposes <strong>of</strong> determining salary<br />

on appointment <strong>and</strong> eligibility for incremental advancement.<br />

1.3 A Nurse 2 Employee who has returned to <strong>the</strong> nursing industry after completing a ‘refresher<br />

course’, <strong>and</strong> who has not worked as a Registered Nurse for five or more years, will not<br />

immediately be credited on appointment with ‘approved experience’ for salary purposes.<br />

1.4 However, within <strong>the</strong>ir first three months <strong>of</strong> service <strong>the</strong>y may request <strong>the</strong> CEO make an<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir performance to determine <strong>the</strong> extent to which <strong>the</strong>y have recovered<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir former skills <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> proportion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir previous experience which should be<br />

recognised as ‘approved experience’ for salary purposes.<br />

1.5 Employees will be eligible for salary <strong>and</strong> incremental advancement from <strong>the</strong> date on which<br />

<strong>the</strong> assessment is made.<br />

2. Enrolled Nurse (Nurse 1) Progression <strong>and</strong> Accelerated<br />

Advancement<br />

2.1 Definitions<br />

Enrolled Nurse means an Employee whose training or education is deemed satisfactory<br />

for <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> enrolment on a register or roll as a nurse o<strong>the</strong>r than as a Registered<br />

Nurse (as defined), <strong>and</strong> who is subject to <strong>the</strong> regulations or by-laws <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nurses Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn Territory, <strong>and</strong> who holds a current practising certificate as such.<br />

Employee or Employees includes, for <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> this clause, <strong>the</strong> Enrolled Nurse (as<br />

defined) unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise stated.<br />

In-service training means <strong>the</strong> formal or informal work related learning activities<br />

undertaken by an Employee through opportunities provided by <strong>the</strong> employing agency,<br />

which contribute to an Employee’s pr<strong>of</strong>essional development <strong>and</strong> efficiency by:<br />

i. <strong>the</strong> acquisition <strong>and</strong> updating <strong>of</strong> skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge beneficial to effective<br />

performance within a team; or<br />

ii. reducing <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> direct supervision required by <strong>the</strong> Employee; or<br />

iii. enhancing <strong>the</strong> breadth or depth <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills or both required by<br />

an Employee in a specific area or range <strong>of</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> nursing practice, as <strong>the</strong><br />

case may be.<br />
