An Employee’s entitlement to paid recreation leave accrues progressively during a year<br />
<strong>of</strong> service according to <strong>the</strong> Employee’s ordinary hours <strong>of</strong> work.<br />
If an Employee takes unpaid leave that does not count as service, leave will not accrue<br />
for that period.<br />
(Note: An Employee who has taken unpaid leave that does count for service will accrue leave for<br />
that period.)<br />

A part-time Employee will accrue recreation leave on a pro-rata basis in accordance with<br />
his or her agreed hours <strong>of</strong> work.<br />
An Employee who has worked for only part <strong>of</strong> a year will accrue recreation leave on a<br />
pro-rata basis in accordance with his/her ordinary hours <strong>of</strong> work or, agreed hours <strong>of</strong><br />
work if a part-time Employee.<br />
Recreation leave accumulates from year to year.<br />
56.5 Granting <strong>of</strong> Leave<br />
The CEO may, on application in writing by <strong>the</strong> Employee, grant leave for recreation purposes, subject<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Department’s operational requirements. The CEO will not unreasonably refuse to agree to a<br />
request by <strong>the</strong> Employee to take recreation leave.<br />
56.6 Public Holidays<br />
Where a <strong>public</strong> holiday occurs during recreation leave, <strong>the</strong> Employee is entitled to payment at <strong>the</strong><br />
same rate as <strong>the</strong> rate allowed for recreation leave <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>public</strong> holiday is not<br />
deducted from <strong>the</strong> Employee’s recreation leave entitlement.<br />
56.7 Excess Leave<br />
Where an Employee has recreation leave credits in excess <strong>of</strong> two (2) years (or three (3) years in <strong>the</strong><br />
case <strong>of</strong> a compulsory transferee), <strong>the</strong> CEO may, on giving a minimum <strong>of</strong> two (2) months notice, <strong>and</strong><br />
provided that direction is reasonable, direct <strong>the</strong> Employee to take recreation leave <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
employee must take that leave within a three (3) month period, or a period agreed between <strong>the</strong><br />
parties, to reduce <strong>the</strong> accrued leave to <strong>the</strong> equivalent <strong>of</strong> two (2) years (or three (3) years in <strong>the</strong> case<br />
<strong>of</strong> a compulsory transferee) <strong>of</strong> credit.<br />
56.8 Cash-out <strong>of</strong> Leave<br />
An Employee may apply, in writing, to <strong>the</strong> CEO to cash-out an amount <strong>of</strong> his/her available recreation<br />
leave provided that:<br />
(a)<br />
<strong>the</strong> Employee’s remaining accrued entitlement to paid recreation leave is not less than<br />
four (4) weeks;<br />
