be paid only once to an Employee irrespective <strong>of</strong> how many post graduate qualifications<br />

<strong>the</strong> Employee holds;<br />

not be paid during periods where <strong>the</strong> Employee performs Higher Duties outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

relevant work area; <strong>and</strong><br />

not be paid during leave without pay or during periods <strong>of</strong> leave which have not<br />

authorised.<br />

26. Exemplary Practice Allowance<br />

26.1 Exemplary Practice (EP) is a status awarded by <strong>the</strong> Department for sustained exemplary<br />

nursing performance in <strong>the</strong> clinical setting.<br />

26.2 Exemplary Practice is recognised through <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> an allowance that rewards<br />

Employees in non-promotional positions who engage in additional exemplary activities<br />

within <strong>the</strong> workplace.<br />

26.3 After approval, <strong>and</strong> subject to maintaining exemplary practice, an Employee's Exemplary<br />

Practice status will be recognised for a period <strong>of</strong> three years before <strong>the</strong> Employee must be<br />

reassessed.<br />

26.4 There is one level <strong>of</strong> Exemplary Practice for Nurse 1 (Enrolled Nurse) (Nurse 1 EP 1) <strong>and</strong> two<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> Exemplary Practice for Nurse 2 (Registered Nurses) (Nurse 2 EP 1 <strong>and</strong> EP2).<br />

26.5 The Exemplary Practice Scheme will apply to Employees, excluding casuals, employed as<br />

Nurse 1 or Nurse 2 by <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />

26.6 An Employee must meet <strong>the</strong> requirements specified in <strong>the</strong> Exemplary Practice H<strong>and</strong>book:<br />

Application Process Guidelines to be eligible to apply for assessment.<br />

26.7 The Exemplary Practice Allowance will be paid to successful applicants for a period <strong>of</strong> three<br />

years, subject to <strong>the</strong>ir maintaining exemplary practice requirements.<br />

26.8 An Employee may make an application for Exemplary Practice status at anytime <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re is<br />

no limit to <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> times an Employee may re-apply for assessment.<br />

26.9 To ensure <strong>the</strong> continuation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> allowance, an Employee must re-apply for Exemplary<br />

Practice assessment prior to <strong>the</strong> three year termination date.<br />
