Heads of court stations around the country are under firm<br />

instructions to secure the station and its property. <strong>The</strong> ongoing<br />

cooperation between the Ministry of Lands and the <strong>Judiciary</strong> has<br />

facilitated the repossession of land that had been allocated to<br />

private developers in Mombasa and Eldoret.<br />

4.1 Court Construction<br />

Construction work for eight court stations, valued at over Sh1.5<br />

billion had stalled. In the past year, the High Courts in Busia and<br />

Sirisia have been completed and handed over. Gatundu and<br />

Naivasha will be ready for handover by the end of this year. <strong>The</strong><br />

Malindi court will be handed over early next year, while the Kisumu<br />

one is expected to be handed over later in the year. Construction<br />

work on the Narok court is expected to commence in February<br />

next year.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Judiciary</strong> has embarked on the massive construction of<br />

prefabricated courts. This step is being taken to decongest courts<br />

in the face of rising public demand for services as well as to<br />

provide space for an increasing number of staff. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Judiciary</strong> has<br />

entered contracts with the Prisons Service to furnish new courts<br />

as well as those that were rehabilitated.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Judiciary</strong> has embarked<br />

on the massive construction of<br />
