<strong>Whops</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Clobber</strong><br />
Deborah had nearly reached the end of the<br />
corridor when she heard the hall doors swing open<br />
<strong>and</strong> shut again. She turned around <strong>and</strong> saw<br />
Cass<strong>and</strong>ra Cassidy come out of the hall, her tie<br />
loosened <strong>and</strong> a hint of a grin on her face.<br />
Debs waited for Cassie <strong>to</strong> approach.<br />
“You <strong>to</strong>o?” she asked.<br />
Cassie Cassy nodded. “She’s pretty shirty so I<br />
guess we’re in for some good, tight whops.”<br />
“Hmmph!” grunted Deborah sullenly.<br />
As they made their way through the labyrinth<br />
of corridors that led <strong>to</strong> the Gr<strong>and</strong> Dames study Cassie<br />
tried <strong>to</strong> make idle conversation but Deborah was<br />
unresponsive. She was fond of Cassie Cassy but she<br />
was lost in her own disgruntled train of thought.<br />
Debs had been genuinely surprised when the<br />
Gr<strong>and</strong> Dame had pointed out her delinquent<br />
neckwear. Despite Ms Law<strong>to</strong>n’s accusations it had<br />
been a genuine oversight. Each morning Deborah<br />
rose an hour early for tennis practice with her coach,<br />
Ms Lummell. After they had finished practicing serves,<br />
lobs <strong>and</strong> slices Deborah generally completed her<br />
training by running several laps around the<br />
compound. That morning she had been feeling quite<br />
active <strong>and</strong> had added an extra lap. <strong>The</strong> additional<br />
time had meant that she had had <strong>to</strong> rush in<strong>to</strong> the<br />
shower <strong>and</strong> then finish dressing as she dashed<br />
through the quadrangle <strong>to</strong> the assembly hall. She had<br />
merely forgotten <strong>to</strong> finish by fastening her collar <strong>and</strong><br />
tightening her tie.<br />

unreasonable her ignominious dismissal from the hall<br />
