improved when Joanna Heyworth <strong>and</strong> Nicola Jane<br />
Nixon were required <strong>to</strong> pay her a visit the following<br />
morning. Ms Law<strong>to</strong>n stared across her desk <strong>and</strong> fixed<br />
Jojo <strong>and</strong> Nix with a gimlet glare. She was not in the<br />
least bit impressed by their woefully insincere looks of<br />
penitence.<br />
Neither gal had offered much in the way of an<br />
explanation, merely informing the Principal that Ms<br />
Reed, the Dame in charge of Mathematics, had sent<br />
them up for disrupting her lecture. Jojo had added<br />
that the Maths Dame had requested that they were <strong>to</strong><br />
be beaten soundly.<br />

fine art of scolding; she spoke in a cold <strong>and</strong> clipped<br />
manner, selecting her words carefully <strong>and</strong> spitting<br />
barbs across the desk in a <strong>to</strong>ne that resembled
