It was stated earlier that one of the primary reasons for choosing the SH-2G control system is that the block diagram is simple enough so that simulation times are short. Since more than 10 cases were to be optimized, and even more are to be evaluated, a decision was made to investigate only one axis. Not only would this reduce the simulation times greatly (to approximately 1 hour per optimization), but it would also simplify the analysis. Within the ASE are the control blocks of each axis. The only four design parameters of the lateral channel are located within this block. Two gains are used as rate and attitude feedback gains: dpp_RAHA and dpp_RAHAR. The other two design parameters are a stick force gain, and a stick filter: dp_RAHSF and dpp_RF. 3.1.2 Required Modifications to the Block Diagram Several modifications were needed to streamline the block diagram for the purposes of this project. First, all non-essential input and output connectors were replaced by terminating blocks. By doing so, a Simulink simulation will take less time to run. This modification made a noticeable difference in run times. 96
