An example of the use of several families would be if the user wished to produce both a gain schedule, and a check for robustness of the system. The gain schedule would be comprised of several cases, their velocities differing slightly. Several cases for the robustness check would be created by perturbing the stability derivatives. The gain schedule cases would be kept in one family, while the robustness cases would be kept in another. Thus, the results of the two could be analyzed separately, and the problem becomes very clear and organized. The Family Area is also persistent in all aspects of the Batch GUI. In all modes, clicking on a cell in the Family Area will display the appropriate cases in the Case Number Area, as well as the data pertinent to the current family in the Display Area. In Setup Mode, the name of the family can be changed by selecting the family, and then clicking on it again to edit it. The remainder of the Setup Mode GUI sections are much more straightforward. The File Menu resides at the top of the Batch Mode GUI, and it behaves in the same way as any conventional pull-down menu. It contains some of the commands used less frequently, thus freeing up space on the remainder of the GUI. Currently, only Setup Mode commands are listed in the menu. The File menu contains the commands for the loading an existing or a new Batch Problem, the creation of a new Batch Problem on disk, and functions for quick saving and loading. Once all parameters have been varied for each case, the user selects Create Batch Problem from the File menu. The directories and files are then created for all cases. This process takes anywhere from seconds to minutes, depending on the complexity of the individual cases. Thus, the quick save and load functions were created to save to disk only the values defined in the Batch Mode GUI, allowing the data to be saved in less than a second. Batch Mode may then be reopened at a later date, and the quick load function can be used to restore the settings of the Batch Mode GUI to continue the setup of a problem. The Edit menu allows the user to copy, paste, and create series of cases. This functionality is not part of the current version of Batch Mode, but will be included in future versions. Further discussion of the limitations of this version of Batch Mode will be discussed at the end of the Setup Mode GUI section. To the right of the Edit menu is the Insert menu, which gives the user the option to add new cases or families to the current Batch Problem. The GUI for these two functions are shown below.
