The chosen method works regardless of the actual groupings of the correlated
parameters, as demonstrated in the previous example. The number of gradient
calculations required is less than or equal to the best possible case of the other two
methods. Furthermore, the difficulties incurred in the “grouping method” due to groups
of three or more design parameters do not affect this method at all.
The only one possible shortcoming of this method is that when dealing with three
or more correlated parameters, it does not employ the means to freeze the minimum
number of specs. In other words, if the parameters are related as in Figure 42c, and the
critical design parameter is not frozen first, design parameters may be frozen
unnecessarily. While it is possible for this to happen, it is unlikely since correlated
