eing ideal for the computations necessary for control analysis, MATLAB provides the
Simulink environment, allowing the user to easily construct a model of the control
system. Finally, MATLAB provides great flexibility for graphically displaying the
results, using the many pre-existing plotting functions of the MATLAB Control Toolbox.
While these three components make up the basis of CONDUIT, there are several other
smaller components within these three which provide the functionality behind
CONDUIT. These smaller components will be discussed in the following sections, to the
extent of providing a basis for the explanation of Batch Mode. Furthermore, they will be
explained with respect to the two operating modes of CONDUIT: Setup Mode, in which
the CONDUIT problem is created, and Run Mode, which is used to optimize the problem
and analyze the results.
1.1.2 Block Diagram (Setup Mode)
All simulation is performed in the MATLAB environment. Thus, the model of
the aircraft and the control system itself must be simulated in MATLAB, using its
modeling and simulation capabilities of the MATLAB Simulink environment. Simulink
is a graphical simulation tool that allows the user to build control systems in block
diagram form.
