Shortly after I moved into Above and Beyond,<br />

the city redid the whole street blocking traffic <strong>for</strong> a<br />

long time. The Wealthy Theater also closed <strong>for</strong> a period<br />

further reducing customer traffic.<br />

Still, we held successful drum circles, poetry<br />

readings, and classes. My wedding ministry did well.<br />

I often per<strong>for</strong>med two or three weddings a weekend. I<br />

did sidereal astrology and tarot readings, and I taught<br />

Thursday night Bhagavad Gita classes.<br />

Sunday mornings, I led The Gathering--a spiritual<br />

gathering of seekers, pilgrims, and sojourners<br />

who met <strong>for</strong> spiritual development. I offered an experiential,<br />

eclectic interfaith approach to spirituality. It<br />

brought together cultural creatives who can’t accept<br />

old, traditional religions at face value and seek a new<br />

vision <strong>for</strong> life because they recognize the old one isn’t<br />

working. It helped people find community and feel<br />

the strength of like minded people gathered in common<br />

purpose. I presented a spirituality grounded in<br />

everyday life and concerned about peace, justice, and<br />

the integrity of the environment.<br />

I updated some of my early writings and critically<br />

studied Chaitanyaism. The cross pollination of<br />

Chaitanyaism and Protestant scholarship took root in<br />

me and my writings. Each generation needs to adapt<br />

and develop the teachings <strong>for</strong> current circumstances<br />

and present a living faith rather than a dead faith<br />

stuck in the past.<br />

On <strong>Radha</strong>’s appearance day, I wrote this poem:<br />

To <strong>Radha</strong><br />

As a gift to you my dear queen of Braj,<br />
