Increased overtime working isat the expense of rest, family, leisure <strong>and</strong> can result in health problems.Similarly, rest periods <strong>and</strong> breaks during work areimportant for a worker’s health. Suitable restperiods <strong>and</strong> breaks should include: short breaks during working hours1/3 Work longer breaks for meals1/3 Family <strong>and</strong> lesiure adequate daily or nightly rest1/3 Rest adequate weekly rest24 hours paid holidays Information<strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong>safety lawAgreementsThere is a wide diversity of approaches in national legislation. Check thesummaries provided by your union educator of applicable laws in yourcountry.Your union may have made agreements with your employer about theworking time <strong>and</strong> hours of work.
