Simon School<strong>of</strong> Business Administration at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Rochester and the Center for the Study <strong>of</strong>Public Policy at Carnegie-Mellon <strong>University</strong>. Under the leadership <strong>of</strong> the late KarlBrunner (<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Rochester) and Allan Meltzer (Carnegie-Mellon <strong>University</strong>) theConference developed into a semi-annual event occurring in April in Rochester andNovember in Pittsburgh. <strong>The</strong> principal objectives <strong>of</strong> the Conferences are (a) to stimulatepolicy relevance and empirical research in economic science, (b) to encourageinterchange <strong>of</strong> scientific ideas among analysts with different approaches, and (c) togenerate greater understanding by academic economists <strong>of</strong> practitioner's environments.Each conference tends to be organized around a particular theme or topic with papersprepared by leading scholars with expertise in the area.
