Chapter 9.SPECIAL PROCEDURES9.1 EMERGENCY DESCENT PROCEDURES9.1.1 Action by the pilot-in-commandNil.9.1.2 Action by the ATS unitNil.9.2 CONTINGENCY PROCEDURES INCLUDING TURN-BACKSNil.9.3 AIR-GROUND COMMUNICATION FAILURE9.3.1 The following procedures apply to aircraft operating in the oceanic airspace of the Auckland Oceanic,Brisbane, Fukuoka, Honiara, Manila, Melbourne, Port Moresby and Nauru FIRs. These procedures are int<strong>en</strong>ded tocomplem<strong>en</strong>t and not supersede State procedures/regulations.9.3.1.1 In the ev<strong>en</strong>t of total loss of communication, an aircraft shall:a) try to re-establish communication by all other means;b) if all attempts to re-establish communication with ATC are unsuccessful:1) squawk 7600;2) if able, broadcast in the blind at suitable intervals: flight id<strong>en</strong>tification, flight level, aircraft position(including the ATS route designator or the track code) and int<strong>en</strong>tions on the frequ<strong>en</strong>cy in use, aswell as on frequ<strong>en</strong>cy 121.5 MHz (or, as a back-up, the VHF inter-pilot air-to-air frequ<strong>en</strong>cy123.45 MHz);3) watch for conflicting traffic both visually and by refer<strong>en</strong>ce to airborne collision avoidance systemsor traffic displays (if equipped);4) turn on all aircraft exterior lights (comm<strong>en</strong>surate with appropriate operating limitations);5) maintain the last assigned speed and level for a period of 60 minutes following the aircraft’sfailure to report its position over a compulsory reporting point (including ADS-C flights), andthereafter adjust speed and altitude in accordance with the filed flight plan;MID/ASIA 9-1 30/11/07
