Chapter 12.METEOROLOGY12.1 AIRCRAFT OBSERVATIONS AND REPORTS12.1.1 Wh<strong>en</strong> air-ground data link is used and ADS is being applied, from the aircraft int<strong>en</strong>ding to operate on highd<strong>en</strong>sityair routes, ACCs shall designate those which shall be required to include the meteorological information block inthe ADS messages every 15 minutes. The designation shall be made by the ACC delivering the clearance by includingthe required meteorological reporting frequ<strong>en</strong>cy in the ADS contract. The designation should normally be made so as todesignate one aircraft per air route and per flight level at approximately hourly intervals.12.1.2 Wh<strong>en</strong> voice communications are used, from the aircraft int<strong>en</strong>ding to operate at cruising level on highd<strong>en</strong>sityair routes, ACCs shall designate those which shall be required to report routine meteorological observations ateach prescribed reporting point. The designation shall be made by the ACC delivering the clearance by using the phrase“SEND MET REPORTS”. The designation should normally be made so as to designate one aircraft per air route and perflight level at approximately hourly intervals.12.1.3 Aircraft cleared on high-d<strong>en</strong>sity routes in the Amman, Bahrain, Damascus, Emirates, Jeddah, Kabul,Muscat, and Tehran FIRs betwe<strong>en</strong> 2300 and 0500 UTC shall be required to transmit routine meteorological observationsonly wh<strong>en</strong> so designated at the time of receiving their clearance in accordance with 12.1.1 and 12.1.2.12.1.4 Wh<strong>en</strong> voice communications are used, aircraft flying over Japan and Contin<strong>en</strong>tal Asia shall be exemptedfrom reporting routine observations.12.1.5 Aircraft cleared on high-d<strong>en</strong>sity routes betwe<strong>en</strong> Tokyo and Hong Kong, Tokyo and Taipei, Hong Kong andTaipei, Hong Kong and Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and KualaLumpur, and Bangkok and Singapore shall be required to transmit routine meteorological observations only wh<strong>en</strong> sodesignated at the time of receiving their clearance in accordance with 12.1.1 and 12.1.2._____________________MID/ASIA 12-1 30/11/07
