Chapter 9.SPECIAL PROCEDURES9.1 EMERGENCY DESCENT PROCEDURES(P-ATM – Chapter 15)9.1.1 Action by the pilot-in-command9.1.1.1 Desc<strong>en</strong>t through the MNPS airspace9.1.1.1.1 An aircraft that is not MNPS/RVSM-approved and is unable to maintain a flight level above MNPS/RVSMairspace should desc<strong>en</strong>d to a flight level below MNPS/RVSM airspace.9.1.1.1.2 An aircraft compelled to make a desc<strong>en</strong>t through MNPS airspace, whether continuing to destination orturning back, should, if its desc<strong>en</strong>t will conflict with an organized track:a) plan to desc<strong>en</strong>d to a level below FL 280;b) prior to passing FL 410, proceed to a point midway betwe<strong>en</strong> a conv<strong>en</strong>i<strong>en</strong>t pair of organized tracksprior to <strong>en</strong>tering that track system from above;c) while desc<strong>en</strong>ding betwe<strong>en</strong> FL 410 and FL 280, maintain a track that is midway betwe<strong>en</strong> and parallelwith the organized tracks; andd) contact ATC as soon as practicable and request a revised ATC clearance.9.1.2 Action by the ATS unitNil.9.2 CONTINGENCY PROCEDURES INCLUDING TURN-BACKSNil.9.3 AIR-GROUND COMMUNICATION FAILURE(A2 – Chapter 3; P-ATM – Chapter 15; P-OPS, Vol. I)Note.— The following procedures are int<strong>en</strong>ded to provide g<strong>en</strong>eral guidance for aircraft operating into orfrom the NAT Region experi<strong>en</strong>cing a communications failure.
