ADMISSION AND ENROLLMENTGeneral Information and OrientationBefore the beginning <strong>of</strong> each academic session, UMUC holdsvarious events online, as well as open houses in the <strong>Maryland</strong>area, for new and prospective students. These events <strong>of</strong>fer anopportunity to learn about UMUC and its programs, studentservices, academic and career options, faculty members, and fellowstudents. Prospective students can be admitted and registerfor courses during the on-site open houses.For general information or to be directed to specific <strong>of</strong>fices,students may call 800-888-UMUC (8682). Phone representativesare available for general information from 6 a.m. to10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Most UMUC <strong>of</strong>fices areopen weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. eastern time.AdmissionAdmission RequirementsFor master’s degree and certificate programs, most applicantswho have graduated from a regionally accredited degree-grantinguniversity or college are eligible for admission. Transcripts arerequired, but Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or GraduateManagement Admission Test (GMAT) scores are not. (Informationon optional submission <strong>of</strong> GMAT scores for enrollmentin the MBA program is provided on p. 14.) Some graduateprograms also require the submission <strong>of</strong> additional informationbefore an admission decision can be made (more details areprovided under individual program descriptions).Applicants to the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching program mustsubmit standardized text scores, usually Praxis I scores. (Moreinformation on MAT admission criteria may be found on p. 12.)Executive Programs require five years <strong>of</strong> management experiencein addition to the above (more details are on p. 66).To be eligible to apply for the doctoral programs, students musthave a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college oruniversity and must apply before the application deadline (orwith permission <strong>of</strong> the department). Applicants must successfullycomplete the 3-credit prerequisite course DMGT 600 forfull admission to the program. This requirement may be waivedfor applicants who already have a terminal degree (e.g., PhD,JD) or who submit a GMAT score <strong>of</strong> 650 <strong>of</strong> higher or (for theDM in community college administration and policy) for thosewho have at least three years administrative experience at a communitycollege.Admission ProceduresApplicants for graduate certificate and master’s degree programsmust complete and submit the graduate admission application,pay the nonrefundable fee, and provide an <strong>of</strong>ficial transcriptindicating completion <strong>of</strong> a bachelor’s (or higher) degree from aregionally accredited degree-granting university or college. Applicationsfor admission are accepted throughout the year.Information on documentation required for admission to thedoctoral or executive degree programs is provided on pp. 10,11, and 66. Thedoctoral program <strong>of</strong>fice may be contacted at 800-888-UMUC,ext. 6745.Students may apply to all UMUC graduate programs online viaMyUMUC at https://my.umuc.edu.Determination <strong>of</strong> Residency for Tuition PurposesAn initial determination <strong>of</strong> in-state or out-<strong>of</strong>-state status fortuition purposes is made when a student applies for admission.The determination made at that time remains in effect thereafterunless it is successfully challenged. The student is responsible forproviding the information necessary to establish eligibility forin-state status. Official criteria for determining residency are inthe section on <strong>University</strong> Policies on p. 174.
