UNIVERSITY POLICIESIV.CRITERIAStudents must meet the criteria provided in Section II <strong>of</strong>the USM policy to be eligible for in-state status. Additionalinformation about some <strong>of</strong> those criteria follows:A. Students in the United States holding specific visa classificationssatisfy criterion Section II.H <strong>of</strong> the USM policyas determined by the Office <strong>of</strong> the Attorney General.Students may contact the residency evaluator to askabout their eligibility.B. Students who do not owe <strong>Maryland</strong> income taxes or areexempt from U.S. federal, state, or local taxes because <strong>of</strong>the student’s visa status will not be required to meet SectionII.C <strong>of</strong> the USM policy.C. Students in the “uniformed services” (e.g., NOAA, PublicHealth Service) but not in the “armed forces,” do notautomatically qualify for in-state residency under SectionIV.E <strong>of</strong> the USM policy.D. Students who maintain <strong>Maryland</strong> as their permanentaddress, but who are temporarily residing outside <strong>of</strong><strong>Maryland</strong> for no more than 12 months, may be consideredto meet Section II.A <strong>of</strong> the USM policy if theysubmit the following documentation to the residencyevaluator:1. A statement indicating the length and purpose <strong>of</strong> thetemporary absence;2. If licensed to drive, a copy <strong>of</strong> his or her <strong>Maryland</strong>driver’s license;3. If employed, a copy <strong>of</strong> a recent paycheck stub showing<strong>Maryland</strong> taxes being withheld; and4. A copy <strong>of</strong> a lease or deed for the student’s <strong>Maryland</strong>residence.E. Students who separated from the military prior to applyingfor admission to UMUC and who claimed <strong>Maryland</strong>as their home state <strong>of</strong> record while in the military satisfyII.D, II.E, and II.F <strong>of</strong> the USM policy if (i) the studentwas prevented from living in <strong>Maryland</strong> while on activeduty; (ii) the student now lives in <strong>Maryland</strong>; (iii) thestudent has a <strong>Maryland</strong> driver’s license; (iv) the studenthas registered his or her car in <strong>Maryland</strong>, if applicable;and (v) the student is registered to vote in <strong>Maryland</strong>.These students are not required to comply with theserequirements for the period <strong>of</strong> twelve (12) consecutivemonths immediately prior to and including the last dateto register for courses in the semester or term for whichthe student seeks in-state status.F. Students who must register their vehicles outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong>for business purposes satisfy criteria Section II.D.V. ALTERATION OF IN-STATE STATUSA. Students shall notify the residency evaluator, in writing,within 15 days <strong>of</strong> any change in circumstances that mayalter in-state status.B. In the event incomplete, false, or misleading informationis presented, UMUC may, at its discretion, revoke instatestatus and take other disciplinary actions providedby UMUC’s Code <strong>of</strong> Student Conduct. If in-state statusis gained because <strong>of</strong> false or misleading information orbecause UMUC is not notified within 15 days <strong>of</strong> anychange in circumstances that may alter in-state status,UMUC reserves the right to retroactively assess all out<strong>of</strong>-statecharges for each semester or term affected.Religious Observances(UMUC Policy 51.00)I. UMUC conforms to the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents Policy III-5.10Concerning the Scheduling <strong>of</strong> Academic Assignmentson Dates <strong>of</strong> Religious Observance, approved onJanuary 11, 1990.II. So that the academic programs and services <strong>of</strong> UMUCshall be available to all qualified students who have beenadmitted to its programs, regardless <strong>of</strong> their religious beliefs,students shall not be penalized because <strong>of</strong> observances <strong>of</strong>their religious holidays. Students who miss a course sessionbecause <strong>of</strong> an observance <strong>of</strong> their religious beliefs must beallowed■■■■■■To make up any examinations, other written tests, orclass work;To have access to any handouts or other materialdistributed in class; andTo have the opportunity to obtain or review anyduplicated lecture notes or slides presented in class.III.
