International ApplicantsTo be considered for admission, international students must present■■■■Official documents indicating successful completion <strong>of</strong> theequivalent <strong>of</strong> a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.Applicants educated in countries other than the United Statesmust have their <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts evaluated by an independentevaluation service. The evaluation organization will senda copy <strong>of</strong> the evaluation both to the applicant and to theGraduate School <strong>of</strong> Management and Technology. UMUCaccepts credit evaluations from any National Association <strong>of</strong>Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)–approved organization,including World Education Services (WES), and theAmerican Association <strong>of</strong> Collegiate Registrars and AdmissionsOfficers (AACRAO). A list <strong>of</strong> NACES-approved agenciesis available at www.naces.org/members.htm. Applicants mayaccess AACRAO request forms online at http://www.aacrao.org/international or may contact the organization by phone at202-296-3359 or by e-mail at oies@aacrao.org.Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> English language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.Applicants who have not received a baccalaureate degreefrom an English-speaking country must demonstrate Englishlanguage pr<strong>of</strong>iciency to be eligible for admission. (A completelist <strong>of</strong> countries recognized as English-speaking is availableonline at www.umuc.edu/students/international.) The followingare accepted as pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> English pr<strong>of</strong>iciency:——A minimum TOEFL (Test <strong>of</strong> English as a Foreign Language)score <strong>of</strong> 550 on the paper-based version or 79 onthe Internet version and a minimum Test <strong>of</strong> Written English(TWE) score <strong>of</strong> 4 (unless the Internet-based TOEFLis submitted—then no TWE is required)——A minimum score <strong>of</strong> 6.5 on the IELTS (InternationalEnglish Language Testing System), including the academicwriting and academic reading modules——A passing grade <strong>of</strong> Pre-1 on the Eiken Test in PracticalEnglish Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency——A transcript indicating completion <strong>of</strong> at least 12 credits<strong>of</strong> graduate coursework at a regionally accredited U.S.degree-granting institution. Credits must have beenearned in the past two years and earned a grade <strong>of</strong> B orhigher. All credit is subject to review before being acceptedas evidence <strong>of</strong> English pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.Applicants must arrange to have <strong>of</strong>ficial score reports sentdirectly from the testing agency to the Graduate School <strong>of</strong>Management and Technology. The TOEFL score recoverycode for UMUC is 5804. Test scores must be less than twoyears old.■■Documentation <strong>of</strong> residency status.Applicants must provide a photocopy (front and back) <strong>of</strong> apermanent residency card or the visa page <strong>of</strong> a valid passport.Merely providing these documents does not ensure admission. Aninterview may also be required. The <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript evaluationmust be submitted and evaluated before admission is considered.Note: UMUC no longer issues Form I-20 A-B Certificate <strong>of</strong>Eligibility for F-1 student status.RestrictionsStudents may be admitted to only one institution in the <strong>University</strong>System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> at any one time. Students may beadmitted as either graduates or undergraduates, but no one mayhold both classifications simultaneously. A student’s most recentapplication for admission invalidates any previous admission.Students may be admitted to only one graduate program atany time. Application for admission to a second graduateprogram is not permitted until notification <strong>of</strong> resignation hasbeen presented to the first program. Students admitted to anyother graduate program in the <strong>University</strong> System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong>must notify UMUC. Students retain active status for two years(six consecutive sessions) even without being registered in theprogram. However, after two years without a completed graduatecourse, students must submit a new application.Note: Graduate students may take both graduate and undergraduatecourses concurrently.RegistrationWays to RegisterRegistration begins each session as soon as the class schedulebecomes available on the Web and continues until the day classesbegin. Students should check the current graduate schedule <strong>of</strong>classes for the deadlines for registration.Students in some programs (Executive Programs and the Master<strong>of</strong> Business Administration) must register through the program<strong>of</strong>fice for most courses.UMUC <strong>of</strong>fers four ways to register for most courses: online viaMyUMUC, by mail, by fax, and on-site.ONLINE VIA MYUMUCStudents may register online at https://my.umuc.edu.
