Tolearn about nomination criteria, students should contact StudentRelations at 240-684-2400.Academic StandardsGrade Point AverageGraduate students are expected to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPAat all times.ACADEMIC LEVELS OF PROGRESSAn assessment <strong>of</strong> academic standing is made for each student atthe end <strong>of</strong> every session. Each student’s GPA is computed for allUMUC graduate-level graded coursework to make a determination<strong>of</strong> academic standing as described below.Good Academic StandingA student with a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or higher with no grade<strong>of</strong> F is in good academic standing. Students must be in goodacademic standing to be considered for graduation.Academic ProbationA student with a cumulative graduate GPA below 3.0 or with agrade <strong>of</strong> F is placed on academic probation. Academic probation isa temporary status. Students placed on academic probation mustrestore their GPA to 3.0 or higher by the end <strong>of</strong> the next session <strong>of</strong>enrollment. Students on academic probation should seek guidanceand advice from an academic advisor. Any course in which a grade<strong>of</strong> F is earned must be repeated in the next session <strong>of</strong> enrollment.Failure to restore the GPA to 3.0 or higher will result in academicdismissal. A student who successfully restores his or her GPA to3.0 or higher will be in good academic standing.DismissalA student on academic probation who fails to raise the GPAto 3.0 or higher by the end <strong>of</strong> the next session <strong>of</strong> enrollment isdismissed. A student who is dismissed is ineligible to enroll inUMUC graduate courses and ineligible for readmission to anyUMUC graduate program.Program Completion RequirementsStudents are responsible for applying for graduation (for degreesand/or certificates) by completing and submitting the appropriatediploma application and fees by the deadlines published onthe UMUC Web site. The award <strong>of</strong> degrees and certificates isconditional upon satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> all program requirementsand compliance with all UMUC policies. Graduationclearance will not be granted for a student with outstanding debtto UMUC or any outstanding misconduct charges or unsatisfiedsanction terms. Regardless <strong>of</strong> GPA, no grade <strong>of</strong> F can remainon the graduate record at the time a student applies for graduation.Individual programs may have additional requirements thatmust be met before graduation clearance can be granted.Time Limit for Degrees and CertificatesAll requirements established for the completion <strong>of</strong> a graduatedegree or certificate program must be fulfilled within seven consecutiveyears, except for the Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration,which must be completed within five years. For dual degree programs,both degrees must be completed within seven years. Thisregulation includes courses transferred from other institutions.Any transfer <strong>of</strong> credit must be completed within the five- or sevenyeartime frame applied toward the degree or certificate program.Doctoral Program StandardsThe Doctor <strong>of</strong> Management (DM) program has requirements inaddition to those listed at left for academic standing. In additionto a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0, a DM student who receives agrade <strong>of</strong> C in a course must repeat that course in the next session<strong>of</strong> enrollment and earn a grade <strong>of</strong> B or better. The option torepeat a course may be exercised only once. A DM student whoreceives a grade <strong>of</strong> F or a second grade <strong>of</strong> C is dismissed from theDM program, regardless <strong>of</strong> GPA.Degree RequirementsIn general, the UMUC degree and certificate requirements thatapply to a student are those that were in effect when the studentbegan continuous enrollment in the program. If a student has notbeen continuously enrolled, the requirements that apply are thosein effect at UMUC when the student resumes continuous enrollment.To be considered continuously enrolled, students must beor have been enrolled at UMUC and have had no more than twoyears <strong>of</strong> nonenrollment. When a continuously enrolled studentchooses to change his or her program, the student may be subjectto the requirements in effect at the time <strong>of</strong> the change.Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the StudentAttendanceStudents are expected to attend all on-site or online classes andany related activities regularly and punctually.
