These labsare available primarily for the use <strong>of</strong> students completing coursework,but are also open to faculty members, staff, and alumnion a first-come, first-served basis on presentation <strong>of</strong> a validlibrary bar code. Students must bring a disk or flash drive tosave data or documents.Lab assistants are available during scheduled hours to help userswith resident s<strong>of</strong>tware programs, but cannot provide tutoring.Students may also access host computers at UMUC via theInternet using Telnet. Two host systems are accessible: Nova andPolaris. Students must have an account for the particular systemthey wish to use. For most students taking courses in computing,accounts are set up automatically as part <strong>of</strong> the coursework andare valid for the duration <strong>of</strong> the class.Technical support for WebTycho, MyUMUC, and other learningapplications is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,through UMUC 360 Support online at support.umuc.edu or byphone at 888-360-UMUC (8682).Information and Library ServicesUMUC’s Information and Library Services (www.umuc.edu/library) serves to educate students, faculty, and staff in the use <strong>of</strong>library and information services, emphasizing the critical importance<strong>of</strong> information literacy knowledge and skills for successin today’s information-rich world. Students can access an extensive array <strong>of</strong>subscription research databases containing tens <strong>of</strong> thousands<strong>of</strong> full-text articles, as well as thousands <strong>of</strong> electronic books,through the Information and Library Services home page atwww.umuc.edu/library or through WebTycho. Information andLibrary Services has also created subject-specific resource guidesto serve as a jumping-<strong>of</strong>f point for research. Each guide includessubject-relevant research databases, books, Web sites, and (whereapplicable) other Web 2.0 technologies.LIBRARY SERVICESCurrently enrolled students in the continental United Stateshave borrowing privileges at the 16 <strong>University</strong> System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong>and affiliated institutions (USMAI) libraries.
