The demandfor qualified managers and leaders in the field will create manynew career opportunities. The Master <strong>of</strong> Distance Education andE-Learning (MDE) is designed to develop general knowledgeand competencies in all aspects <strong>of</strong> both the business and technicalissues related to distance education. The goal <strong>of</strong> the programis to produce individuals who are capable <strong>of</strong> managing distanceeducation and e-learning enterprises within a wide variety <strong>of</strong>organizational structures.Program ObjectivesGraduates <strong>of</strong> the program will be able to■■■■■■■■Develop and communicate a mission and vision for the implementation<strong>of</strong> distance education and e-learning within an organization.Function effectively as leaders, managers, and team memberswithin a distance education or training organization.Develop strategic goals and business plans for distance educationand e-learning within an organization.Analyze and recommend an organizational distance educationtechnology plan and manage the implementation <strong>of</strong> that technologyin distance delivery.■■■■Design, implement, and assess the necessary support servicesfor a distance education or e-learning program.Demonstrate competency in organizational and managementprocesses, leadership and change management, informationtechnology, business development, strategic action planning,problem solving, ethics, and social responsibility.Program OverviewThe curriculum requires 36 credits <strong>of</strong> coursework, including12 credits <strong>of</strong> core coursework, 21 credits <strong>of</strong> specialization coursework,and a 3-credit capstone course.SpecializationsThe Master <strong>of</strong> Distance Education and E-Learning <strong>of</strong>fers threespecializations, each covering subject areas relevant to today’scareer fields. Each specialization prepares students for one <strong>of</strong>several possible career paths, depending on the student’s backgroundand employer criteria.Distance Education Policy and ManagementThe policy and management specialization focuses on thereasons why investment in education is so highly valued by governmentsand individuals and how distance education programsare budgeted and their costs evaluated.
