An introduction toa variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods usedin the social sciences, as applied to distance education ande-learning. Topics include planning and designing research andevaluation projects, including choosing appropriate methods ofinvestigation, and managing the practical aspects of quantitativeand qualitative data collection and analysis. Major paradigms areexplored, and an overview of the various research fields in distanceeducation and e-learning is provided. The Statistical Packagefor the Social Sciences (SPSS) is used to manage and analyzedata. Skills in collecting quantitative and qualitative data andin analyzing, interpreting, and reporting the results of empiricalinvestigations are developed.DETC (Distance Education Technology)DETC 620 Training and Learning with Multimedia (3)(Formerly OMDE 620. Developed by Joachim Hasebrook ofGermany.) An examination of the use of digital media in a varietyof educational settings to identify properties, strengths, andweaknesses of multimedia in different learning contexts. Basicpsychological processes of perception, understanding, and learningare introduced.
