FLOW-RECIRCULATION METHOD FOR INVESTIGATION OFALKYLATION OF BENZENE WITH ETHYLENEMatrosova M.M., Bobrov N.N., Parmon V.N.Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, Novosibirsk, Russiahimitsu08@mail.ruPP-I-36The alkilation of benzen with ethylene to ethylbenzene (EB) is important industrialprocess as EB is the key intermidiate in the manufacture of styrene. One problem inthe manufacture of EB is undesirable by-products production. EB can later andergoother reactions producing mainly diethyl- and triethylbenzen, wich reduce the yeld ofEB and affect the efficiency of the process. Another product formed in appreciablequantities, which reduces the EB quality, is xylene. Since separation of xylene fromthe EB product is very difficult, the production of xylene is very detrimental. Hencethe understanding of the kinetics and alkilation mechanism could help in optimizingthe reaction condition and desighn new catalyst for a more efficient process. The reliable method for studying kinetiks and catalitic properties is flowrecirculationmethod (FRM), which allow one to generate ideal stirring conditions in alaboratory reactor [1]. Under these conditions, the catalyst bed is isothermal and thecontact reaction mixture over the surface of all catalyst grains has practically thesame composition. The FRM experimental techniques and devices for testingcatalytic activity are developed in the Borescov Instutute of Catalysis SB RAS formore than 20 years and they were subsiquently improved in recent years [2].-2,2T=400°ClgW-2,3-2,4T=350°C-2,5-2,6-0,2 0,0 0,2 0,4lgC E BFig. 1.
