For example, improvementsin water supply may not be linear but may start out slowly and accelerate over time. Thiswould increase the number of deaths annual in the short run (compared to Estimate 3)and decrease them toward the end of the period. In addition, better medical care couldreduce overall mortality as a fraction of morbidity.
