4076 The first Danish children's book O.O. Bagge: Fabler for Börn. Vol. I-III. Cph 1831- 33. Three text pamphlets and three pamphlets with in all 75 handcoloured engraved plates. Each volume housed in the orig. cardboard slipcases (one defective). All collected in morocco box. SEE START PRICES AND PLACE BIDS ONLINE AT WWW.BRUUN-RASMUSSEN.DK 4076 The creator of "Fabler for Börn", which has been called the first "real" Danish children's book, was the engraver O.O. Bagge (17801836). Bagge planned to publish 4 volumes but only 3 were published. The work was to expensive to make and it could not compete with the much cheaper children's books which were imported from Germany. Bagge's close friend Eckersberg (17831853), one of the pioneers in the Golden Age of Danish painting has drawn several of the illustrations (5, 9, 20, 24, 33, 40, 49 and 66 + rear wrappers.) (10) 100 4077 The complete set of all 10 volumes of Arrild Huitfeldt's Danish chronicle are only rarely offered for sale, especially when bound in beautiful uniform bindings like these. "These ten volumes [...] relate the history of Denmark from the legendary King Dan and up to the death of Christian III, January I, 1559. They were written historically in reverse during the years 1595 to 1603 by the Chancellor of Denmark, Arrild Huitfeldt (15461609)."
