The very first edition printed in Latin and far the most
superior printing to the pirated edition published by
Meurs. Athanasius Kircher (16021680) was a 17th
century German Jesuit scholar who were among the
fathers of modern science. He published around 40
works through his lifetime most notably in the fields
of Oriental studies, geology, and medicine. The many
works of Kircher's indicate his widespread interest
and genius. "China monumentis", is, in many ways,
Kircher's most significant work. It is the first publication
of important documents on Oriental geography,
geology, botany, zoology, religion and language.
