"Det forjættede Land" ("The promised Land") is the
first of the three novels ("Det forjættede Land",
"Lykke­Per" and "De Dødes Rige") which are normally
considered to be Pontoppidan's (1857­1943) main
works. "Det forjættede Land" is in three parts: "Muld"
(1891), "Det forjættede Land" (1892) and "Dommens
Dag" (1895). In 1917 Henrik Pontoppidan was
rewarded for his work and was awarded the Nobel
Prize for literature for his authentic descriptions of
present­day life in Denmark.
