H.C. Andersen (1805­1875) became acquainted with
the Thiele family through Just Mathias Thiele who
was a very important person to the young and promising
writer. In Thiele's memoirs he describes his first
impression and meeting with the younger Andersen
like this: "Og hvad hed saa denne Dreng? Nu kan
man med Glæde og med Taarer i Øiet sige det uden
at fornærme eller i nogen Maade at nedsætte ham,
nu, da han er blevet en Yndlingsdigter, ikke blot i Danmark,
men næsten over hele Guds grønne Jord ! Det
var Hans Christian Andersen ! Men han var min Ven,
førend han blev verdensberømt, og førend man i hans
Fødeland havde faaet Øinene op for den i ham boende
Genius". Thiele: "Af mit livs Aarbøger" (1820).
The books here presented have passed to different
members of the Thiele family through the years. One
of the previous owners Ida Thiele, was a descendant
to the "first" Ida Thiele (1830­35) (the daugther of
Just Mathias Thiele) who was source of inspiration for
H.C. Andersens's fairy­tale "Den lille Idas Blomster"
(1835).
