order). In all 18 vols. Copenhagen 1761-1883, the
supplementary parts published 1853, 1865 and
1874. Folio. Complete with 3240 orig. handcoloured
engraved plates of plants (a few plates
only partly handcoloured, only 2/3 of plates
handcoloured in vol. 15). All plates numbered (and
annotated with the name of the plant or flower
in the first 6 vols.). The first 3 vol. with all text
pages collected in the beginning, the rest with the
text pages parted in 3. Vol. X with printer's error
on title page. Title page in vol. 4 restored. Several
vols. with bookplate on versos of flyleaves or half
titles. Minor spotting only to a few plates. Bound
in half morocco. Most volumes worn, 8 vols. with
loose frontboards or defective hinges. (18)

"Flora Danica" is the most extensive illustrated work
in the Danish history of printing with 3240 handcoloured
engravings of Danish plants and flowers.
Georg Christian Oeder (1728­91) was the first director
of the Danish Botanical Garden and as part of this
job he planned the monumental work "Flora Danica"
which was completed in 1883, nearly 120 years after
the first part was issued.
Oeder was fired as editor in 1772 and replaced by the
zoologist O.F. Müller. Eleven different botanists after
Müller were in charge of publishing "Flora Danica".
