page (fully restored) and 40 double-page engraved<br />

maps drawn by Johannes Mejer and engraved<br />

by N. and M. Petersen. Both text and maps with<br />

browning, dampstaining and soiling, several maps<br />

and a few text pages (fully) restored. Small library<br />

stamp on versos of maps. Bound in full calf, binding<br />

with minor restoration, worn, with two ties.<br />

Housed in modern cloth box. Further description<br />

Johannes Mejer's work on Schleswig and Holstein is<br />

the earliest printed atlas in Denmark and it covers the<br />

area Schleswig Holstein from Hamburg to Kolding<br />

in North. The maps are decorative with cartouches,<br />

ships, folk­types, etc. The maps were engraved by the<br />

brothers Matthias and Nicolai Petersen in the town of<br />

Husum, after drawings by Johannes Mejer (1606­74).<br />
