10. Organic Acid Salts<br />

Since organic acid salts containing water <strong>of</strong> crystallization dissolve<br />

readily in methanol, their moisture content can be measured easily<br />

using a general-use dehydrated solvent. In the case <strong>of</strong> organic acid<br />

salts that do not contain water <strong>of</strong> crystallization, moisture content can<br />

be measured by dissolving or dispersing the substances in a generaluse<br />

dehydrated solvent. As these substances are solids with a high<br />

moisture content, we recommend measurement using volumetric<br />

titration.<br />

The organic salt sodium tartrate dihydrate was formerly sed as a<br />

standard reagent for determining the titer <strong>of</strong> <strong>Karl</strong> <strong>Fischer</strong> reagents for<br />

use in volumetric titration.<br />

Examples <strong>of</strong> substances that can be measured directly:<br />

Organic acid salts containing water <strong>of</strong> crystallization<br />

Barium acetate, cadmium acetate, cobalt acetate, lead acetate, magnesium<br />

acetate, nickel acetate, sodium acetate, zinc acetate, uranyl acetate, sodium<br />

citrate, lithium citrate, calcium lactate, calcium malonate, sodium<br />

naphthionate, ammonium oxalate, potassium oxalate, calcium propionate,<br />

sodium succinate, sodium benzoate, sodium tartrate<br />

Organic acid salts without water <strong>of</strong> crystallization<br />

Ammonium acetate, sodium adipicate, potassium hydrogen tartrate,<br />

ammonium citrate, sodium formate, sodium phthalate, zinc stearate<br />
