P5.86Wed 711:10-14:00Universality of the melting curves for a broad range ofinteraction potentialsSergey Khrapak 11 MPI for extraterrestrial Physics, Giesenbachstrasse, 85741, Garching, GermanyIt is demonstrated that the melting curves for a wide range of different interaction potentials exhibita universal shape on a plane of appropriately chosen reduced variables. Available numerical datafor IPL, Yukawa, WCA, 12-6 LJ, n-6 LJ and exp-6 potentials are essentially collapsing on a singlecurve, data for the bounded GCM potential are scattered in its close proximity. The physics behindthis universality is discussed. An equation for the emerging ”universal melting curve” is proposed.The results can be particularly useful to approximately locate fluid-solid coexistence in colloids,complex plasmas and other soft matter systems in a wide range of conditions.86
