Fri 911:10-14:00P6.3Micro-macro links for stability and coalescence in liquidfoamsAnne-Laure Biance, 1 Aline Delbos, 2 and Olivier Pitois 21 LPMCN, Université de Lyon, La Doua, Batiment Brillouin, 43 Bd du 11 novembre 191877404, Villeurbanne, France2 LPMDI, Université Paris-Est, Marne La Vallée, FranceThe stability of foam is investigated experimentally through coalescence events. Coalescence occurswhen the system is submitted to external perturbations (T1) and when the liquid amount in thefilm network is below a critical value. Microscopically, transient thick films are observed duringfilm rearrangements. The thickness of these films is governed by T1 dynamics. Film rupture, withcoalescence and eventual collapse of the foam, occurs when the available local liquid amount is toosmall for transient films to be formed. Similar experiments and results are shown in the two bubblecase. In the end, experiments with particle covered interfaces are presented and how coalescenceis inhibited in such complex systems is shown.
