Tue 611:23-14:00P2.27High-resolution RIXS on liquids and gasesFranz Hennies 11 MAX-lab, Ole Römers Väg 1, 22100, Lund, SwedenMost fundamental questions regarding the function of complex molecular systems are relatedto local electronic and dynamic properties of different molecular building blocks in relevantchemical environments, i. e. the liquid phase under ambient conditions. Core-resonant soft X-rayspectroscopy has for a long time allowed access to local electronic structure information, andin recent time its application, in particular when applied in photon-in-photon-out mode, hassuccessfully been extended to the investigation of liquids. However, direct information about localcoordination and dynamics, in particular of the ground state, has up to now not been accessible. With the very high resolution available with the SASXES spectrometer at the ADRESS beamlineof the SLS (Villigen, Switzerland) RIXS spectra of pure gases and liquids (O2, acetone, water)at the O K-edge with a resolution of E/dE 10000 have been obtained [1], that, for the first time, exhibit resolved single vibrational modes [2], allowing for a description of the potential energysurfaces of ground state and excited states in unprecedented accuracy. RIXS deployed in anoptical-pump / X-ray-probe scheme at the free electron laser source LCLS (Stanford, USA)allows for the observation of ultra-fast photo induced solute dynamics of localized and itinerantelectronic states with femtosecond time resolution [3].[1] F.
