XNX Universal Transmitter2.2 Wiring the XNXThe XNX is available in 3 basic personalities (versions) whichsupport a variety of detectors and applications. Each of the availablepersonalities use dedicated interface boards. Pluggable terminal blocksare used for easy connection and service. The personality boards andoptional interfaces are enclosed in the electronics POD (Personality,Options and Display). The Personality circuit board determines the XNX behavior based onthe sensor type attached to the XNX interface (See Figure 2-7).The table below defines the three XNX transmitter configurations andthe sensors each support.Searchline ExcelXNX IR PersonalitySearchpoint Optima Plus Local/RemoteGeneric mA SensorsXNX mV PersonalityXNX EC PersonalityXNX EC SensorXNX EC Sensor Remote Mount Kit705 Local / Remote MPD Local (cat bead and IR) Sensepoint Local / Remote705HT Local / Remote MPD Remote Sensepoint PPM Local/RemoteSensepoint HT RemoteCautionBefore wiring the XNX, confirm the correct personality boards andoptions are installed.2.2.1 General Wiring ConsiderationsFor proper operation of the XNX Universal Transmitter and sensortechnologies, consideration of wiring induced voltage drops, transientelectrical noise and dissimilar earth ground potentials is imperative inthe design and installation of the system.Note:To maintain EMC integrity, wiring must be shielded by eitheran integral shield or run through conduit or pipe. Shield shouldprovide 90% coverage.LoadingWiring for DC power, 4-20mA signal, remote wiring to sensors mustbe sized sufficiently to provide sufficient voltages for the line lengthand the loads that will be used.IsolationIsolating power and signal carrying conductors is recommended.Circuit ProtectionSupply circuits must provide over current protection. Class 2 powersupplies are required for 24 volt DC supply. Consider inrush currentin specifying any DC supply. Power supply range is 16 to 32 VDC forEC and mV versions, 18 to 32 VDC for Searchpoint Optima Plus andSearchline Excel and 16 to 32 VDC dependent on the limitations ofdevice for the generic 4-20mA input.LoadsThe use of high inrush or inductive loads may affect the performanceof the XNX. For best reliability use resistive loads only.2.2.2 Distance Considerations for InstallationProviding power to the transmitter is the factor that will determine themaximum distance of the installation. The 4-20 mA output signal willeasily handle the distance back to the control equipment.Section 2 - Installation and Operation 2-52.2 Wiring the XNX
