XNX Universal TransmitterThe primary factors determining distance are: minimum operatingvoltage of the transmitter and/or sensor; maximum current draw of thetransmitter/sensor, resistance of the wire used, power supply voltageand current capacity of power supply. An additional consideration is the type of installation; specifically, howmany transmitters/sensors are drawing power from the same powersupply and whether these transmitters are using the same pair of wires(“daisy-chain”) or have their own connections.Types of InstallationsThere are three basic types of installation: a single transmitter;multiple transmitters connected to a single power source; and multipletransmitters connected in a “daisy-chain” configuration.Single TransmitterThis is the simplest type of installation. It consists of a single XNXtransmitter installation per power source.Advantages:Class 2Power SupplyClass 2Power SupplyClass 2Power SupplyFigure 2-4. Single Transmitter Installation• Maximum distance between power source and transmitter.• Smaller power source.• If a power source fails, only one monitoring point fails.Disadvantages:• Multiple transmitters require multiple power sources.Multiple Transmitters Connected to a Single Power SourceThis is two or more transmitters sharing a single power source with eachtransmitter having its own dedicated wiring to the power source.Class 2Power SupplyFigure 2-5. Multiple Transmitters Powered by a Single Power SupplyAdvantages:• Maximum distance between power source and transmitters.• Fewer power sources.Disadvantages:• Larger power source will be needed.• If a power source fails, several monitoring points fail.Multiple Transmitters Connected in a “Daisy-Chain”ConfigurationThis configuration consists of two or more transmitters installed ina line. The power connections are installed as an extension of theprevious transmitter, with the first transmitter being the only oneactually wired to the power source.Class 2Power SupplyFigure 2-6. “Daisy-Chained” Transmitters from One Power SupplyAdvantages:• Less wire needed for installation.• Fewer power sources.Section 2 - Installation and Operation 2-62.2 Wiring the XNX
