WHAT IS WAAS?WAAS, available in North America, is a provider in the worldwide SBAS (Satellite BasedAugmentation System) navigation system. An SBAS provider furnishes GPS signal correctionsto SBAS users, for even better position accuracy, typically better than three meters. Two moreSBAS providers are also currently under development, MSAS (Multi-Functional SatelliteAugmentation System) for Japan and EGNOS (Euro Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service)for Europe. All providers will be compatible with one another, thus providing “seamless” positionfixes to SBAS users.At the time of this software release, WAAS is still in the developmental phase. During thisdevelopmental phase, which may last several years, there is no guarantee of the accuracy,integrity, continuity, or availability of the WAAS signal. Therefore, FURUNO will accept noresponsibility for the use of the signal for other than the above stated purpose. It is the user’sresponsibility to exercise common prudence and navigational judgment when using the WAASsignal.Note: This manual uses “WAAS” when referring to any SBAS provider.vii
