David Sailor is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Mechanical <strong>and</strong> Materials Engineering at Portl<strong>and</strong> State University.<br />

His research is in the general area <strong>of</strong> Energy <strong>and</strong> the Environment. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Sailor’s recent<br />

research focus has been on modeling the urban climate, with applications in air quality, building<br />

energy consumption, human health, <strong>and</strong> climate change. He has particular research interest in<br />

the feedback mechanisms between energy systems <strong>and</strong> climate with a focus on building energy<br />

consumption <strong>and</strong> renewable energy resources, developing high resolution weather <strong>and</strong> climate<br />

models in application areas for short‐term energy load forecasting <strong>and</strong> long‐term climate change<br />

scenarios, <strong>and</strong> has particular interest in urban heat isl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Levermore read Physics at Imperial College, London gaining his BSc, ARCS in 1971 <strong>and</strong><br />

his PhD, DIC, on the Johnsen‐Rahbek Effect, in 1974. He then worked at the GEC Hirst Research<br />

Centre <strong>and</strong> then the Jules Thorn Lighting Laboratory. In 1980, whilst heading the W<strong>and</strong>sworth<br />

Energy Conservation Section he founded the London Boroughs Energy Management Group. He<br />

joined UMIST in 1991 from South Bank University. He is currently Chair <strong>of</strong> the CIBSE Weather<br />

Panel <strong>and</strong> coordinator <strong>of</strong> the CIB Task Group21; Climatic Data for Building Services <strong>and</strong> a Lead<br />

Author on the IPCC (WG3). His research focus centers on weather data – for design <strong>of</strong> buildings,<br />

plant <strong>and</strong> natural ventilation, climate change; Control <strong>and</strong> Modeling – intelligent buildings, low‐<br />
