Box 6.2: Measur ing Digital Literacy in AustraliaICT is incorporated into the Australian educationalcurriculum, and digital literacy amongstudents is measured using a six-stage methodologyin which students performing at level1 are able to complete basic tasks usingcomputers and software, while students performingat level 6 are able to use advancedsoftware features to organize informationand to synthesize and represent data as integrated,complete information products. aIn 2008, the Australian government measuredthe effects of the Digital Literacy Programusing a standardized test for year 6 andyear 10 students across Australia. As shownin figure B6.2.1, over 40 percent of year 6students were proficient at level 3, which includesthe ability to conduct simple generalsearches and select the best informationsource to meet a specific purpose.
