This is reflected in the explosion of published medicalliterature focusing on improved perioperative outcomes ofmodern surgery and the ever improving outcomes associatedwith chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The rapid developmentof targeted treatment has only served to usher in heightenedoptimism and galvanize cancer research. There has been amore structured approach towards long-term goals ofrecurrence and death, producing robust evidence for theirefficacy or otherwise. But such is not the case for 30-daycomplications and its impact on morbidity / mortality and itsmanagement.According to the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine,“Evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit andjudicious use of current best evidence in making decisionsabout the care of individual patients.”The eighth volume on Evidence Based ManagementGuidelines brought out by the Tata Memorial Centre attemptsto address this issue of complications of modern cancertreatment through an evidence based perspective.
