‘The <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Curie</strong> programme provides the possibility ofcombining training courses with active research, as well asgetting a broad insight into both industry and education,’Ms Alberts says. ‘The possibility of coming into contact withresearchers from a variety of study areas and collaboratingwith them opens the mind to the future career choicesavailable in life.’A family affairFor other Fellows it was the fl exibility of the <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Curie</strong> supportthat helped them in the early stages of their research career.Research Fellows with families receive additional fi nancialsupport as a supplement to the mobility allowances alreadyprovided through the <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Curie</strong> programme. The allowanceshelp a researcher and his or her family move to a new countryand help pay for regular visits home.Petr Šmíd moved from his home country, the Czech Republic,to take up a position with Gladnet, fi rst in London and thenGermany.
