Unravelling the mysteries of NLR proteinsThe support from the Marie Curie project has paid off, both bybringing more brain power to the research and by helping theresearchers continue to work in their chosen fi eld. ProfessorSchwarzenbacher says the team’s fi rst breakthrough has beento unravel the mysteries of the immunity signalling mechanismfor NLRs. The team’s research paper, entitled The Fas/FADDdeath domain complex structure unravels signalling by receptorclustering, has received extensive international recognition andwill also appear in Nature. ‘In addition, we received considerableattention and press coverage in Austrian and German papersas well as local radio and TV stations,’ he remarks.for postdoctoral work in the US. The team has also appliedfor a European Research Council advanced grant to continueits important work.Professor Schwarzenbacher says that the Marie Curie programmecan really pay off for researchers. ‘It is the best one for internationalmobility,’ he advises. He has succeeded in securing a permanent professorship, while team members Stefan Riedl and Nicole Wopfner haveboth been appointed as assistant professors.
