The armamentarium for new researchThe high quality of research will also help the 17 newlytrained researchers – 10 in the early stages of their career, and 7 experienced researchers – to hold their ground in thisincreasingly competitive fi eld. The relative novelty of the fi eldmeans that the researchers are in a particularly advantageousposition; fi rst and foremost, the links that Spinswitch hasestablished with industry are exceptionally strong. But a project such as Spinswitch produces much morethan purely scientifi c results or inter-institutional links. It alsoprovides the researchers with the tools to operate on a globalplaying fi eld, Professor Hillebrands believes. ‘Newly trainedresearchers face a flattened world that operates globallyand thus will need a skill set that includes ability to workand collaborate successfully in multinational, culturallydiverse teams. Marie Curie Research Training Networksoffer the opportunity to acquire these skills whilst carryingout leading-edge research.’Project acronymSpinswitchFull project titleSpin current induced ultrafast switchingType of grantTraining NetworkBudgetEUR 2 831 277Duration of project01-10-2006 - 30-09-2010Scientific disciplinePhysicsLead partnerProf. Burkard HillebrandsDepartment of PhysicsTechnische Universität KaiserlauternErwin-Schrödinger-Strasse 56DE-67663 KaiserslauternOther partnersUniversität Konstanz, Germany - Commissariat à l’EnergieAtomique, France - Université Paris-Sud XI, France - Centre National de laRecherche Scientifique, France - University of Glasgow, United Kingdom - ImperialCollege of Science, Technology and Medicine, United Kingdom - InteruniversitaireMicro-Electronica Centrum vzw, Belgium - University of Salamanca, Spain -Instituto de Engenharia de sistemas e Computadores, para os Microsistemase as Nanotechnologias, Portugal - AGH University of Science and Technology,Poland - Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland - National Institute of Researchand Development for Technical Physics, Romania - Siemens Aktiengesellschaft,Germany - Thales SA, France335
