366<strong>The</strong> world <strong>is</strong> given up to self-indulgence. "<strong>The</strong> lust of the flesh, and the lustof the eyes, and the pride of life" control the masses of the people. ButChr<strong>is</strong>t's followers have a holier calling. "Come out from among them, andbe ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean." In the light ofGod's word we are justified in declaring that sanctification cannot begenuine which does not work th<strong>is</strong> utter renunciation of the sinful pursuitsand gratifications of the world.To those who comply with the conditions, "Come out from among them,and be ye separate, . . . and touch not the unclean," God's prom<strong>is</strong>e <strong>is</strong>, "I willreceive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons anddaughters, saith the Lord Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:17, 18. It <strong>is</strong> theprivilege and the duty of every Chr<strong>is</strong>tian to have a rich and abundantexperience in the things of God. "I am the light of the world," said Jesus."He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light oflife." John 8:12. "<strong>The</strong> path of the just <strong>is</strong> as the shining light, that shinethmore and more unto the perfect day." Proverbs 4:18. Every step of faith andobedience brings the soul into closer connection with the Light of the world,in whom there "<strong>is</strong> no darkness at all." <strong>The</strong> bright beams of the Sun of<strong>Righteousness</strong> shine upon the servants of God, and they are to reflect H<strong>is</strong>rays. As the stars tell us that there <strong>is</strong> a great light in heaven with whoseglory they are made bright, so Chr<strong>is</strong>tians are to make it manifest that there<strong>is</strong> a God on the throne of the universe whose character <strong>is</strong> worthy of pra<strong>is</strong>eand imitation. <strong>The</strong> graces of H<strong>is</strong> Spirit, the purity and holiness of H<strong>is</strong>character, will be manifest in H<strong>is</strong> witnesses.Paul in h<strong>is</strong> letter to the Colossians sets forth the rich blessings granted to thechildren of God. He says: We "do not cease to pray for you, and to desirethat ye might be filled with the knowledge of H<strong>is</strong> will in all w<strong>is</strong>dom andspiritual understanding; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto allpleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in theknowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to H<strong>is</strong> gloriouspower, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness." Colossians1:9-11.Again he writes of h<strong>is</strong> desire that the brethren at Ephesus might come tounderstand the height of the Chr<strong>is</strong>tian's privilege. He opens before them, inthe most comprehensive language, the marvelous power and knowledge thatthey might possess as sons and daughters of the Most High. It was theirs "tobe strengthened with might by H<strong>is</strong> Spirit in the inner man," to be "rootedand grounded in love," to "comprehend with all saints what <strong>is</strong> the breadth,
