The RUNSTATS utility of the <strong>DB2</strong> data server helps you to register and use a statistics<br />

profile that specifies the type of statistics that should be collected <strong>for</strong> a particular table,<br />

such as table statistics, index statistics, or distribution statistics. You can use this<br />

feature to simplify how statistics are collected by saving your RUNSTATS options to<br />

use in the future.<br />

3. In the Profile tab, select the Update statistics now option to update the statistics<br />

immediately.<br />

4. Open the Statistics tab to specify the type of statistics you want to collect. You can<br />

gather statistics on all columns, <strong>with</strong> an option to collect data distribution statistics. You<br />

also have an option to collect basic statistics on indexes, including optional extended<br />

statistics <strong>with</strong> data sampling that is useful <strong>for</strong> large indexes. As shown in Figure 3.18,<br />

you can leave the default settings, which are the recommended options.
