1.1 <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong>: The big picture<br />

As shown in Figure 1.1, <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> provides database administration and database<br />

development capabilities <strong>for</strong> <strong>DB2</strong>. It is the primary tool <strong>for</strong> production database<br />

administration <strong>for</strong> <strong>DB2</strong> <strong>for</strong> Linux, UNIX, and Windows environments, but also supports<br />

object management and routine development <strong>for</strong> <strong>DB2</strong> <strong>for</strong> z/OS and <strong>DB2</strong> <strong>for</strong> i. As of Version<br />

3.1, <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> incorporates advanced administration and development tools from Optim<br />

<strong>Data</strong>base Administrator and Optim Development <strong>Studio</strong>, which are not being developed<br />

any further, and <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> is the replacement <strong>for</strong> <strong>DB2</strong> Control Center, which is not<br />

developed any more and has been removed from <strong>DB2</strong> 10 <strong>for</strong> Linux, UNIX and Windows.<br />

Version 3.1.1 of <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> includes support <strong>for</strong> <strong>DB2</strong> V10.1 including Time Travel<br />

Queries, Multi-temperature Storage, and many other enhancements to <strong>DB2</strong>.
