Chapter 4 – Monitoring the health of your<br />

4.1 Health monitoring: The big picture<br />

The <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> web console allows you to monitor the health and availability of your <strong>DB2</strong><br />

(<strong>for</strong> Linux, UNIX, and Windows and z/OS) databases, and view alerts, applications, utilities,<br />

storage, and related in<strong>for</strong>mation. You can open the health monitoring pages from the web<br />

console in a web browser, or seamlessly launch it from the <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> client. For more<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation about installing the web console, see Chapter 1.<br />

4.2 <strong>Getting</strong> started<br />

Important: Be<strong>for</strong>e you open the web console from your web browser, make sure that you<br />

have the Adobe Flash Player plug-in installed in the browser.<br />

To open the web console <strong>for</strong> health monitoring in a web browser:<br />

1. Start the web console server. From Windows, you can start the server from the Start<br />

menu at All Programs -> <strong>IBM</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> -> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> Web Console -> Start Web<br />

Console Server, or directly from the Control Panel. If you are using the web console in<br />

a Linux or UNIX environment, use thestart.sh script from the <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> web<br />

console installation/bin directory.<br />

2. Connect to the <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Studio</strong> web console server from a web browser, using a URL <strong>with</strong><br />

the following in<strong>for</strong>mation:<br />

http://:/datatools<br />
